Need to be rescued

(Unwrapped: the Truth about Christmas #05)

What's in the series?      Previous: The Bigger story       Next: Dreams and angels?

What do you need to be rescued from?  We all need to be rescued from something!

In Matthew’s account of Jesus’s birth, his parents are told that Mary is going to have a son, and that they are to call him Jesus – which means 'rescuer.' But then the message goes on:  ‘you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.’

‘Sins’ means acts of rebellion against God, and the separation from God that they cause. The heart of the Christmas message is that Jesus came to rescue his people from their rebellion against God, and from all the brokenness and corruption that this causes.
